Hello all!

I'm having trouble working out a suitable place for my 15 week old daughter to take her daytime naps.

She won't settle in the cradle set up in my bedroom (where she will quite happily sleep at night), even if I stay in the same room reading. She likes to be near the centre of action during the day and sleeps best in our open plan living area.

This is not a problem, except that I'm running out of ideas for a suitable surface to sleep on! You see Antigone won't settle unless she is rocked to sleep. She loves movement.

I used to use her car capsule, which also doubles as a rocker, to settle her in, but it is getting a bit too squishy to be comfortable for anything other than car trips now. I have tried her stroller too. This works, but I really don't feel comfortable leaving her to sleep in this.

I have thought about moving the cradle to the lounge area to see if she will sleep in in in a different location, but it is really heavy and this would involve taking it down a flight of stairs.

What about a baby hammock? I think one of those might work, but how long can you use these for? I don't really want to buy one if she will grow out of it in just a month or so. Also can these be hired? And does anyone know of any places that sell them (other than online - I have found those :)) where I can see them in action?

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated!!

Thanks
Patrice

Hi Patrice,

Sleeping in the pram is fine so long as you are supervising. You can hire the hammock from Baby Hire shops at fairly reasonable rates. I hired one from Hire for Baby in Kew, Melbourne and they were really obliging.

Cheers, Claire

Thanks Claire,

I'll check out Hire for Baby.

Also, thanks for your reasurance that sleeping in the pram is ok, so long as bub is supervised. I never leave Antigone unattended when she is asleep in our living area, as we have two rather frisky indoor cats who are prone to using furniture as launchpads without any regards to the furniture's occupants!

hello those who have posted on this topic. The "sleeping soundly all night"/needing to be rocked to sleep during the day baby topic is one that I have been wrestling with!! My lovely bubba has been sleeping for 10hrs most nights, for nearly 4 weeks; but needs day time rocking in pram to get her to sleep. BUT what happens next - are we forming some sort of bad habit?, what happens when she is too big for pram..Do they grow out of it with developmental changes? She is 4 mhts old and I am totally against crying-to-sleep tactics and have been stressing that by doing the pram-rocking during the day,it will be habit-forming. If she does wake at night, she puts herself back to sleep but daytime is just different!!... Anyone able to comment?
